"So," he quirks an eyebrow at her, "what shall we drink before Carl comes running over with my new assignment?"

"Something strong." She voices her preferance with an assurance, as she pushes all other thoughts from her mind, and realizes that she needs help.

"You're not thinking of absinthe, again, are you?" he asks.

"Perhaps," she confesses.

"That might be a bit too strong for a pre-assignment drink." He, slyly, quirks an eyebrow. "However, if it means we won't have to leave as soon, there might be advantage in it."

"Are you suggesting that I might not be able to hold my liquor?" She turns to him, an eyebrow of her own raising slowly.

"Not at all. Mostly, I just don't like absinthe," he admits. "I was actually more thinking about getting a bit of an extended break between assignments."

She nods, a slight smile brushing her expression for a fleeting instant.

"I see."

"However, if you have a good Scotch or Brandy, lead on."

"I just might."

[ooc: oh - I dunno - a random drinking establishment somewhere... if she's come back and he's getting ready to leave - they could be in Rome - I know Rome has places one can drink... *g*]

She quickly finds a small establishment, seemingly unnoticed by the other passersby. With a quick glance to him, she pushes her way to the small crowd at the doorway.

"Can't say I've ever been here before," he says, taking a look around the place. "Not that I can say I've seen much of the city in seven years at all."

"Seven years?"

"That's how long I've been here... in Rome. Doing this... work," he replies as he slides into a chair.

She sits down as well, before freezing as his words register in her mind.

"It has been that long?" she asks in a hushed voice.

He nods. "Yes."

"I don't remember anything before that."

"Oh," she exhales. "How long has it been since..."

His brow furrows a bit.

"Since... what?" he asks, his drink halfway to his lips.

"I died."

"Oh." He puts his drink back on the table. "Well, several... a little while. I'm sorry. I don't know exactly." He lowers his eyes.



[ooc: VH canon makes it rather difficult to determine also - as it takes place circa Halloween 1888 - and then determining how many days/weeks have passed between then and *now* - whenever 'now' is to them... you see the minor dilemma... so, we'll leave it a bit vague.]

She nods, taking a drink from her glass.

He leans across the table a little. "Would you feel better knowing for sure?"

She shakes her head.

"Probably not."

He nods and sips his drink.

"Anything else you need to know?"

She hesitates before replying.

"No."

"Good, because I think Carl is coming with my new assignment. Probably something with big teeth and lives in a dark cave. You interested?"

"Always."
