Van Helsing moves quietly around the room, sliding weapons into the leather bag on the floor beside Beowulf, trying to prevent the metal parts from clanking into one another. Beowulf tilts his head and snuffles at Van Helsing's ear. "Shhh," he says to the wolfhound, "we're not going anywhere yet." And he scratches the dog's head. He takes a quick glance over his shoulder at the woman asleep on the bed, then tucks a couple more items into the bag.

She murmurs in her sleep at the noise before opening one green eye and peering at Van Helsing.

"Gabriel?"

"Hi." He looks at her over his shoulder, then turns around, his hand scratching idly at Beowulf's head. "Have a nice nap?"

She smiles and nods.

"You pet that dog more than you me."

And she's grinning.

He peers at her, confused. "I'm supposed to pet you?"

She smirks.

"Wouldn't hurt, certainly."

And she turns to her side, looking at him.

"You could, you know, sleep in the bed. It wouldn't kill you. I promise. I'm a doctor. I know these things."

He lowers his eyes a little. "Where... when I'm from, that's not exactly considered polite."

She shrugs.

"It's not really considered polite where I'm from either, but the way I figure it, it'll save you on the back pain."

"Floor's better than the tiny cot I have at the Vatican. When I get to sleep at all, that is," he says as he walks to the bed, sighing as he sits on the edge.

"I wouldn't mind. I'm sure you'd be a perfect gentleman."

Her hand reaches out and strokes down his arm.

He turns his head to look at the hand on his arm. He might even actually be smiling. "Only because it's all that I know."

she shrugs.

"It's not a bad thing to be. I like you just how you are."

He blinks and sighs a little. He's quiet for a moment, like he's thinking about something, then he shifts and leans back into the pillows, one arm behind his head, the other, hanging a little off the bed... and Beowulf takes advantage of that for petting and scratching.

Van Helsing looks at Natalie, almost a silent question of 'this is okay, right?'

She smiles and leans over and presses a kiss to his his cheek with a nod.

A contented sigh, maybe even a twitch of a grin as she kisses his cheek. Of course, he's at a complete loss about what to do now.

She laughs, just a little, amused and not mocking, and curls next to him with her head on his chest. She doesn't say anything, but perhaps what she isn't saying is that he's doing perfectly fine.

He draws his arm from beneath his head and brushes his hand over her hair.

"I have to go back at some point. There's still a werewolf I have to take care of," he explains softly, maybe a little sadly.

She nods.

"I know."

She looks up at him.

"I'll be here when you get back."

She grins.

"With bandages even."

He laughs a little.

"Good. I'll probably need them."

He brushes a hand over her hair again.

"What do people do when they know one has to go for a while?" he asks, a twinge of nerves in his voice.

She shrugs.

"A variety of things, depending. Hugs. A last kiss goodbye. More. Less. It depends on...how they feel about it."

And she curls around him a little more at the thought of him going.

"I'm still a little confused."

But, he feels a tightness in his chest as she moves closer, which probably means something, he's just not sure what.

"That's all right."

And she nuzzles into his hand.

"No. I meant... what is 'more'?"

She looks to him.

"Um...sex. Intercourse. Relations. Do you know anything about that?"

He blniks again. "Uh, not exactly." And he hopes his face didn't turn fourteen shades of red.

It did. But she doesn't mind.

"Um...do you...want to learn?"
